Row 21: K 16, Knit the yo and the next Knit stitch on the needle together through the back loops.

Row 22: P 17, Purl the yo and the next Purl stitch on the needle together.

Row 23: K 18, Knit the yo and the next Knit stitch on the needle together through the back loops.

Row 24: P 19, Purl the yo and the next Purl stitch on the needle together.

Row 25: K 20, Knit the yo and the next Knit stitch on the needle together through the back loops.

Row 26: P 21, Purl the yo and the next Purl stitch on the needle together.

Row 27: K 22, Knit the yo and the next Knit stitch on the needle together through the back loops.

Row 28: P 23, Purl the yo and the next Purl stitch on the needle together.

Row 29: Knit across and if need be, pick up a stitch creatively at the corner to close up any potential holes.

Continue across the instep with Row 8 or wherever you left off. Knit 2 rounds on the heel plain, continuing the pattern on the instep as normal.

After your 2 normal rounds, begin the Fishtail lace chart (pattern shown in the third photo above). Now, outside of the markers (the bold lines on the chart) you can play around with the ribbing depending on how many stitches you needed for your sock. That’s the beauty of the pattern! Don’t stress out if you can’t match what I did with the ribbing.

Repeat the two charts on the cuff until there are complete repeats of the Fishtail Lace panel on the back. Finish up the chart for the instep, knitting the stitches on the back as they lay, ending with row 7.

Cuff:
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: Knit
Repeat these two rows until you have 5 garter ridges.

Bind off the following way:

K2togtbl, slip stitch back to the left needle and K2togtbl again. Rinse, wash, repeat until all stitches are bound off.

Eat a bowl of gazpacho soup while wearing your cozy socks.

Knit This
Red Dwarf Socks
By Cristi Brockway

Size: Written for a foot with a circumference of 8 ½” but with plenty of room to add stitches for a larger foot.  It’s toe up!  Try it on!

I’m gonna get you little fishies,
I’m gonna get you little fish

Be the coolest cat on the ship in your Red Dwarf socks.

Materials:
2 balls Wick Sock Yarn (or any other worsted weight sock yarn)
2 Sets of Size 4 24” Circular Needles (This lace pattern is really not meant for being split over dpns)
4 stitch markers (not necessary but helpful)

Gauge: 13 stitches over 2 inches (yes, I’m a tight knitter. But there is plenty of room for tweaking in this pattern for fit.  It’s toe-up after all)

Using the Magic Cast-On from Knitty, cast on 16 stitches. (8 on each needle)

Round 1: Knit all the stitches on needle 1. On needle 2 you will have to knit each stitch through the back legs to keep them seated correctly. This is the only round you will have to do this.

Round 2: K1 M1 Knit to 1 stitch before the end, M1 K1.

Round 3: Knit

Repeat these two rounds until there are a total of 48 stitches on the needles or until the toe fits over your first 4 toes and just touches your pinky toe. (If you have more than 5 toes, um, you may want to repeat those increases a few more times)

Now we look to the Fish-Scale Lace Chart! (pattern shown in middle photo)

Repeat this chart (found at the end of the pattern) until the sock is long enough to hit the base of your heel or the little knobby bit of your ankle. If you end having just knit row 7 your cuff will (or might) end with row 7 as well.

On to the smegging heel!
Row 1: K23 yo, turn work
Row 2: P22 yo, turn work
Row 3: K 21 yo, turn work
Row 4: P 20 yo, turn work
Row 5: K 19 yo, turn work
Row 6: P 18 yo, turn work
Row 7: K 17 yo, turn work
Row 8: P 16 yo, turn work
Row 9: K 15 yo, turn work
Row 10: P 14 yo, turn work
Row 11: K 13 yo, turn work
Row 12: P 12 yo, turn work
Row 13: K 11 yo, turn work
Row 14: P 10 yo, turn work

Now we get on with the increasing and turn this smegging heel!

Row 15: K 10, Knit the yo and the next Knit stitch on the needle together through the back loops.

Row 16: P 11, Purl the yo and the next Purl stitch on the needle together.

Row 17: K 12, Knit the yo and the next Knit stitch on the needle together through the back loops.

Row 18: P 13, Purl the yo and the next Purl stitch on the needle together.

Row 19: K 14, Knit the yo and the next Knit stitch on the needle together through the back loops.

Row 20: P 15, Purl the yo and the next Purl stitch on the needle together.
